Jaw-Dropping Jewels from the 2022 Cannes Film Festival

The Cannes Film Festival, which is easily the dressiest and most glamorous film fest of the bunch, is happening this week in France. And as is tradition, French jewelers are gilding the movie stars du jour with wildly luxurious and innovative statement jewels for the event’s daily red carpets, dinners, and photo calls.

Iconic French jeweler Chopard has used the film festival as its fashion runway for 25 years, harnessing the power of celebrity to ensure that its latest creations are splashed across the home pages of media websites the world over. The atelier debuts its high jewelry collection on Cannes attendees every year, and as the designer of the Palm d’Or trophy, the event’s biggest award, is always the premiere jeweler at Cannes.

But that doesn’t mean other major maisons sit it out. Cartier may have ceded the floor to Chopard this week, but the house’s signature Panthère stalked in on the ear of actress Isabelle Huppert (who also wore a lovely diamond drop earring from the house—see her below). And Boucheron jewelry glinted off the clavicles, earlobes, wrists, and fingers of some of the more fashion-forward attendees, including Viola Davis, who donned a colorful floral-like Boucheron jewel in her hair one night, artist Rossy de Palma, and French actor Romaine Duris, who wore a swirly-curly diamond brooch from the brand (see it below).

Messika also had a few stellar placements, getting gorgeous pear-cut diamond earrings on Bridgerton star Simone Ashley, and tapping models including Lori Harvey to debut fabulous diamond pieces. Pomellato, too, gilded several models and digital influencers.

The week’s not over yet—there are more fabulous jewelry to come, including, we’re guessing, a strong closer from Chopard. But we here are our favorite jewels from Cannes so far:
